Being a guy from Delhi, it’s hard to understand the warmth and culture of Kolkata. Anindita was very
much sure about Ankit, but he wasn’t. It was their first trip to Kolkata after they met six months before
in Delhi.
“There it comes!”… Anindita shouted in glee as she saw the tram making way towards them. She always
wanted to enjoy an evening tram ride with Ankit. There was something in those shady yellow lights, in
those bells and in those brown wooden seats that made her love her city all the more. She wanted him
to see her city through her eyes.
“Come, hold my hand.” Anindita said and led her prince charming to their evening white and black
chariot, the tram.
Ankit was happy like he was never before. In those few minutes, he connected to Diya as if there was a
universe of secrets that was left with him for her to know. As they peaked through the windows and she
enthusiastically showed him her lovely city, he was stunned to find a new side of him.
“Listen…” Ankit said to Diya as he held her hand. The warmth in his voice was a solace for her in that
wintery evening. She could hear her own heart beat a tad faster, her palms started to get sweaty and
her ears were waiting for those words which she wanted to hear for months.
“Can I be your last love?” Ankit looked straight into her eyes.
She closed her eyes, her lips curved to stretch to a smile and she held his hand even tighter.
“Yes.” She tried hard not to cry and embarrass herself.
“Ami tomake bhalobashi.” Ankit said and held her in his arms. His eyes looking for a confirmation for the
Bengali he just said. She laughed hard at his broken Bengali but quickly composed herself as a tear rolled
down her cheek. She found her last love.
His arms were the safest place on earth for her. She never felt so loved, so wanted and protected in her
whole life.
As the tram gazed its path through the lanes of the city, they looked outside the window. Her head on
his shoulders and his arms around her.
And there it was… the City of Joy witnessed another love story.
