This Mini Tale Of A Kolkata Couple Will Make You Sneak A Look At Your Partner’s Phone
“So marry me in your mind and let’s give it our best shot for future.”
A chill ran down through his spine as he read this message flashing in the phone. His hands started shivering and his heart was pounding so heart he could hear it himself. He was becoming nauseous. Rishi pulled a chair and sat on it, his hand on his chest. The message was not for him.
It has been a year that Rishi and Aditi were dating. They were the happiest couple on earth. Everything was going so perfect that sometime Rishi doubted how God could actually make his life such a happy place with an angel like Aditi. For him she was his world. The unlimited laughter, the never-ending discussions, those silent moments… as if it was a fairytale.
Rishi flaunted Aditi in front of his friends and loved her more than anything in the world. Little did he knew that his world would come crashing down someday. It was hate at first sight for them. Rishi always believed that there were two kinds of love. One is romantic, mushy, bookish and another one is soul stirring love, which shakes you to the core, makes you a different person altogether. He always knew Aditi was the second kind for him.
Their hate at first sight was soon converted to date nights at Swissotel, Aqua, evening at PrinsepGhat, weekend gateways at Raichak, morning breakfast at Flury’s and so on. Rishi loved every little thing about Aditi. The way she behaved like a kid when every time she saw a dog, the way she hogged on food, the way dressed up for him, her love for him in his eyes. Being a non-believer in love, Rishi never thought he could be so sure about someone that he can take that girl home in front of his parents. That’s a big thing!
That weekend they decided to go to Dooars as both of their exams got over. Sneaking out from home always scared them, but love conquers all! But there was something very fishy about Aditi, which Rishi used to feel but never told her. She was over protective about her phone. Never shared her password, never shared their photos unlike Rishi, there was her unexpected absences which he never confronted. 21st century relationships are tough!
The sky above their head was grey and it was windy too. Rishi planned a surprise dinner for her. The weather complimented it, he thought. They were in the pool and after some time Rishi got up because there was some itching in his eyes and they became red. As soon as he entered the room he heard Aditi’s phone rang. He didn’t bother to check. And then six messages in a row. The last one said “Baby, I’m missing you.”
A gush of blood ran through his veins and pumped his heart hard. He unlocked the phone and started to check. There it was… everything now fell into place when he saw the chat with the ‘other guy’. Aditi’s over protectiveness about phone, the absence, and the late night phone calls. He couldn’t believe he was being fooled for over a year now. How could that girl do this to him, all the moments they have spent together, all the promises… everything was a sheer lie.
Rishi went out in the balcony to get some air. It was getting hard for him to even breathe.
“Hey! Why did you check my phone?” He heard Aditi shout from the room. He turned around, stepped on a rock and tripped on the slippery floor and couldn’t hold his balance. Their room being just in front of the valley which had a breathtaking view, now took his life. He could only throw a hand of help towards Aditi who came running just to see the horrifying view from the balcony.
“Youth lost his life in the valleys of Dooars”. Next day’s headlines said.
A rare drop of tear made escape through Aditi’s eyes, who probably for the first time missed Rishi from her heart and valued his love, but in veins now.
